Antique 15ct Gold Double Sided Memorial Mourning Locket

The details on this mourning locket are absolutely breathtaking. The intricate foliage engraving around the clear panels gives it a real depth and the rich 15ct gold is divine. It's a substantial size and looks amazing on a long guard or chunky chain. The jump ring is good sized so will fit most chains. 
 
These memorial lockets were so important during the Victorian era. When Queen Victoria’s adored husband Prince Albert past away, the Queen had similar pieces of jewellery made in his honour. Whoever would have owned this would have held it close, most likely wearing it as a fob on a watch chain, to remember the passing of their loved one. 
 
Condition: Good antique condition with wear commensurate with age. The surfaces and interior hair show various signs of wear including surface scratches and slight discolouring in areas. Both clear panels are shut tight and we do not believe they can be removed without damaging the clear panels. 
 
Hallmarks: There are no hallmarks present but the outer surround and the jump ring have tested as 15ct gold.
