Antique (1902) 18ct Gold Albert Watch Chain with sliding T bar

Antique (1902) 18ct Gold Albert Watch Chain with sliding T bar

From being an essential piece for a gentleman's pocket watch to now a desireable piece of jewellery. An antique pocket watch chain comes with so much history and is the perfect addition to any jewellery collection.

The majority of Albert chains you will find on the market will be crafted from 9ct gold, but this one has beautifully chubby curb links each stamped with a crown 18 showing they are made of buttery delicious 18ct gold. The entire piece is a gorgeous true 18ct yellow gold with a softness to it that you can only get from its age.

We love the spinning T bar that slides freely up and down the chain. It can be worn to the front with the dog clasps on show holding your charms, or keep it simple, so many options with this beauty.

At a perfect shorter length of "15.5, it sits at the top and makes a striking layer in a neck mess.

Hallmarks: Every link is stamped with a crown and 18 for 18ct gold. The T bar also has an anchor for Birmingham assay and a makers mark "JC&S". Both dog clasps are stamped crown 18 with matching makers marks "JC&S". The bolt clasp hanging with the T bar is stamped crown 18. The makers mark is most likely for Joseph Cook & Son a registered goldsmith registered in 1885 in Birmingham. There is also a date letter to one of the links for the year 1902.

Condition: The chain is in fantastic antique condition. There are no signs of thinning, damage or repair between the links. Clasps are strong and links only show light surface wear commensurate with age. The bolt clasp hanging with the T bar has a loose spring meaning it falls slightly open on its own. A charm could be attached to the clasp and soldered shut by a jeweller or the clasp can be removed if desired.
