Antique (1849) 22ct Amethyst Ring

Antique (1849) 22ct Amethyst Ring

£410.00Price

When I spotted this one in a pile of vintage rings, it hit me right in the heart at first glance. It is one of those rings that grabs you and you don't know why until you have a closer look.

Although it appears to be a simple ring at first glance, it's a special piece with that mesmorising stone being held in its gorgeous setting of solid buttery 22ct gold. We love the split prongs leading into the simple thin shank really showing off that hand cut glittering amethyst. And the low setting is comfortable, perfect for an every day ring, or even stacked with a band.

The amethyst is stunning and must be seen in person to be appreciated. The French call this hue of amethyst "rose de France" for it's insanely beautiful lilac tone with flashes of pinks and deep purples.

It is common for antique jewellery to lose its original hallmarks, so we were thrilled to see that she still has all of her hallmarks telling us that she has been crafted with 22ct gold in London in the year 1849.

The amethyst has been visually assessed as a natural hand cut amethyst approx 2.4tcw. It is eye clean, with only very minor inclusions (light feathering) that can be seen under magnification.

Hallmarks: crown 22 for 22ct gold, leopard head for London, date letter for the year 1849. There is also a cartouche of Queen Victoria that was used as a ‘duty’ mark reflecting a tax on precious metals collected between 1784 and 1890. There is also a makers mark "RC".

Condition: The ring is in fantastic antique condition with light wear commensurate with age. The claws have recently been re-tipped so the stone is secure in its setting. The amethyst is in beautiful condition with no cracks or chips.

Weight: 2g

Size UK L.75 - US 6 (we do not suggest resizing due to the placement of the hallmarks)
