Antique 18ct Gold Albert Watch Chain
This piece would have been an essential (yet stunning!) piece for a gentleman's pocket watch and has now become a desireable piece of jewellery to wear around our necks. An antique pocket watch chain comes with so much history and is the perfect addition to any jewellery collection. This one is a beauty with hallmarks on every single link of buttery 18ct gold.
It's a shorter length which means it would be great as a choker length, added to another chain to make a longer necklace or wrapped around your wrist as a double bracelet.
The majority of Albert chains you will find on the market will be crafted from 9ct gold, but this one has beautifully chubby little solid curb links each stamped with a crown 18 showing they are made of buttery rich 18ct gold. The entire piece is a gorgeous true 18ct yellow gold with a softness to it that you can only get from its age.
The T bar slides freely along the chain. This means you can wear this chain so many different ways, T bar to the front on its own, with the dog clasps, attach a charm to the dog clasp, push that T bar to the back... endless!
We believe the chain to be all original as the hallmarks and makers marks all match.
Hallmarks: Every link is stamped with "18ct"-some worn but still visible. The T bar is stamped "18ct" and a makers mark "WJS". Both dog clasps are stamped "18ct" and "WJS".
Condition: The chain is in fantastic antique condition. Dog clasps are both strong and springy. The links show light surface wear commensurate with age.
Weight: 12.87g
Length: 13.75" (These is a small section of additional links hanging with the T bar that could be used to extend the chain to just under 14.5" - this would need to be done by a jeweller)
Era: Late 1800s/Early 1900s
