Antique Edwardian Tiffany & Co 18ct Opal & Old Cut Diamond Ring
This outstanding ring is a genuine original Tiffany & Co ring dating to the late 1800s/early 1900s. It’s incredibly special and these pieces rarely appear on the secondhand market for purchase.
The provenance of the ring is really what makes it. It belongs to a close friend who has had it handed down to her from her mother. It originally belonged to her great grandmother. The ring has been handed down between family members of one family through 4 generations. The provenance of the ring is truly unheard of, pieces like this tend to be sold at an earlier stage without the story to go along with it. We would love the ring to be a part of another family and be passed down further generations.
The natural Opal and natural hand cut diamonds are all set in 18ct gold with a simple halo setting that allows the gems to really stand out. The setting sits low to the finger, being cleverly designed to hug the finger, which makes it comfortable and stylish. The band is simple and slim which just adds to the elegance of the piece. The band is stamped “TIFFANY & CO” to the interior. It has a real presence on the finger and would work as beautifully with a denim jacket as it does with a formal dress.
The natural Opal is of incredible quality. It flashes all the colours and fire you want to see in a quality Opal. The cabochon has a lovely height and presence. The main colours are blues and greens with flashings of orange and purple. It is well saturated in every light.
Oval cabochon cut opal (measured within setting) 13.32mm x 8.9 x 4.5 - approx 3.25ct weight. The opal is in fantastic condition for its age. The top cabochon surface has light surface wear - typical for an opal of this age. This could be polished. The opal contains natural inclusions, all typical to the stone. There is a natural internal fissure that runs a partial length of the stone that is not surface reaching and cannot be seen from the top. It is visible on very close inspection with a magnifier from the reverse. It does not impact the stone’s durability.
The diamonds are again of incredible quality and grade. Each diamond is a hand cut old cut diamond with a small culet to the bottom. As they are all hand cut they do slightly vary in shape and size but have been matched very well. They have been assessed within their setting as colour F - clarity VVS1/2. There is no cloudiness, no eye visible inclusions, no dark carbon spots. They face up extremely white and clean. A couple of the diamonds have little nibbles to the girdles but all are secure and does not impact the sparkle - these are typical to antique hand cut stones.
Each diamond is around 2.75mm - 16 diamonds. Approx 1.3cts of natural hand cut diamonds
Condition: It’s in near immaculate condition. The setting is pristine, claws are all in tact and in excellent condition, band is still lovely and thick.
